The Great 50mm 1.4 Shootout

I own two great 50mm prime lenses: the Canon FD 50mm 1.4 and the Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 I They are both fast, sharp and I love the images they produce. Since they're both 50mm 1.4 it is interesting to see how these two wonderful lenses perform and how they compare in a number of different situations.

  1. Hi Jeroen .
Ditch the TAK, The FD looks much better 2 me on allmost all the shots.
The tak looks a little yellowish on some shots. It happens to a lot of the old Taks.
Some people say if you leave them on a sunbed for a few hours, an overdose of UV light, it helps lose the slightly yellowish cast.
Maybe you can book it in at the Zonnebankstudio for an hour.
My old Tak 28mm has also a yellowish cast to it.
    my 50mm has less.
The old FD gives a nice result, Was it expensive.?

  2. I love my Takumar but I reluctantly have to agree the FD is a better performer when you put the two side by side...
Interestingly, though: I like the Takumar better in the shot of the girl/my daughter. If it really is a better portrait lens, I'll have to test!

And yes, I heard about the sun-treatment... in Holland it'll take me 2 years to get that yellow out..!
