GINI CAGE WITH EXTRA RODS TO ACCOMDATE 550D WITH BATTERYGRIP

Got my Gini Cage in today after the postman attempted to deliver it yesterday but realized he needed to charge import duties and didn't have the paperwork with him. So today he came back and after I forked over 28 euro's he handed over the little box with Korean stamps. (Gini is a Korean supplier)
The Gini stuff doesn't disappoint: it looks and feels awesome, as always. Now I need to figure out how to configure this thing into a workable unit.
This cage is a bargain compared to the competition: $175 shipped vs $435 for the TrusMT cage, for instance... albeit that the TrusMT is much better thought-through product and includes a HDMI-clamp, for instance. I would really like the HDMI clamp but for the price difference I can live withouut it and the simpler design of the Gini cage.
I will write more about this cage once I have used it in a few different setups.

Good deal on DSLR Cage

PROAIM: decent cage, decent price

I've spent a few hundred euro on my Gini DSLR rig only to discover that the setup I bought was not ideal and I added a cage and top handle. I think with a DSLR a cage is the way to go. Add arms and grips for handheld work if you wish but start with that basic cage setup that will allow you to expand and build upon. I noticed Indian company ProAim has a good deal on eBay for their 6' DSLR cage: for US $145,- you get:

• 2x Brackets with 15mm rod  holders, 

• Top Handle with soft-grip 

• Quick Release sliding plate with adapter

• 2pc of 15mm Carbon Fiber Rods 450mm long

• 4pc of 15mm Carbon Fiber  Rods 225mm long

That's not a bad deal and it's a great starting point if you're building a new rig. ProAim is obviously not high-end gear but that's mostly noticeable in the finish (rough edges, plastic knobs) for the price it's very decent. I would recommend getting the 9' cage if you have a battery grip. I would also recommend getting a tripod mounting plate if you don't have one yet. The kit including this plate goes for $195,-

FINISHING TOUCH: C-SHAPE CAGE AND TOP HANDLE

Since I have just about everything for my DSLR rig, I might as well put the finishing touch to it. I had no way to comfortable carry the rig around so what I really needed was a top handle- and a way to mount it. There were two options: a square cage or a C-shaped support with top handle. I opted for the last one because in my case (I already have a basic Gini rig) it was cheaper.
After some research I opted for the Lanparte C-shaped Cage, a top handle and 2 rod-risers to accommodate a batterygrip for my camera's. Not cheap but good quality and very functional. After a little searching I found a place that was cheaper than eBay. I have the feeling that the old days -where the best deals were exclusively on eBay- are over...

DSLR Cage uitgebreid

Ik ben nog steeds een beetje aan het klooien met m'n zelfgebakken cage en een van de belangrijkste aspecten was natuurlijk: connectivity. Oftewel, hoe schuif, draai en schroef ik alle accessoires vast aan het frame? Cold shoes zijn natuurlijk een voor de hand liggende optie: (bijna) alles kan erop aangesloten worden: mics, monitors, lampjes. Laat er nou een leuke Indiase familie in Amerika zijn die die dingetjes verkoopt. Ik heb ze binnen en kan weer een stapje verder met m'n cage. Er zit ook een onderdeel van m'n Magic Arm in verwerkt en voor de totale hybride ervaring, heb ik ook een paar stukjes Gini rig toegevoegd. (ik wilde gelijk een stukje 'proefrijden' en merkte dat ik geen beeld krijg via HDMI. Een bug in Magic Lantern of moet ik de handleiding maar eens gaan lezen...)

Doe-Het-Zelf DSLR Cage

Ik heb al een jaren een stel mooie tafelpootjes van een (gesneuveld) glazen bijzettafeltje in de kast liggen, denkend dat ik daar ooit nog iets leuks mee zou kunnen doen. Er zit schroefdraad, ik heb poten van verschillende lengtes en ze zijn vast te koppelen middels een mooie koperen afdekbout. Ik zat al te denken aan een soort steadicam maar een cage voor mijn DSLR is nog leuker. Dit is het begin, handig voor rondlopen en trappenlopen. Ik heb wat hotshoes gekocht die ik eraan ga bevestigen en dan kan ik m'n Lilliput monitor koppelen zodat ik ook laag en hoog kan manouvreren.
