Well, I don't know if it's perfect but that's what it says on the box. It's a LCD foldable viewfinder with 3x magnification and +/-3 diopter. At $46,- shipped it doesn't get any cheaper than this.I bought a viewfinder that doesn't have diopter nor is it foldable for €55,- , about than 10 months ago. What particularly bothered me about that design is the sticky metal frames: they kept falling off. And the magnets that were supposed to keep the two elements together weren't strong enough, either...
I've seen some good stuff about this 'perfect' viewfinder and decided to give it a shot. It's all plastic and light; nothing fancy about it. But who needs that, as long as it works? I will write about my experiences with this loupe after I've really used it and tell you how it holds up.
I really like my clone LCD viewfinder. It took a while to figure out a good way to work with it, but ever since I disposed of the metal sticky frame (kept falling off), I was good to go. (With the articulating screen on the GH2, glueing a metal frame on the screen was never an option.) I use it like a jeweler, hanging the loupe around my neck. Whenever I need to check focus or whatever, I stick it on and otherwise its off, out of the way. Especially when you're on the go and want to set up and break down quickly, this is a nice, portable approach.
Then I saw a DIY video on something I had thought of before but had never seen: using the LCD-protector mounting system to make a 'quickrelease viewfinder'. Great! And for those of us born with two left hands, here's a readymade solution that's not going to break the bank.
I've not been very satisfied with my viewfinder for my 550D/T2i, mainly because it keeps falling off the metal frame. And the metal frame itself also fell off, but maybe I should have let it dry longer before I first used it. Still, the loop clicking onto the frame by way of magnets is not a very solid solution.
But this little guy seems to have covered it right. The viewfinder is held in place by a click-system, it is a screenprotector, 3 x magnification, diopter adjustment, flip the viewfinder up for normal view (but with sunshade) and what seems to be allround good build quality. Shipped home for US $65,- Nice.
